Endoscopy & Colonoscopy

We offer two core gastroenterology procedures performed by board-certified specialists using the latest equipment.

Upper Endoscopy (EGD)

Upper endoscopy, also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), allows our gastroenterologists to visually examine the upper portion of your digestive tract — the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum — using a thin, flexible scope equipped with a camera.

This procedure is used to investigate symptoms such as persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, nausea, and unexplained weight loss. It can also detect conditions like ulcers, inflammation, celiac disease, and early-stage cancers.

  • Diagnosis of GERD, Barrett's esophagus, and esophageal strictures
  • Detection and biopsy of suspicious tissue or polyps
  • Treatment of upper GI bleeding
  • Performed under conscious sedation for patient comfort
  • Typically completed in 15–30 minutes

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is the gold standard for examining the entire large intestine (colon) and rectum. Using a long, flexible scope with a high-definition camera, our specialists can detect polyps, inflammation, and early signs of colorectal cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society recommends regular screening colonoscopies for adults aged 50 and older. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer or related conditions, earlier screening may be advised.

  • Colorectal cancer screening and prevention
  • Removal of precancerous polyps during the procedure
  • Investigation of chronic diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and abdominal pain
  • Diagnosis and monitoring of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Procedure takes approximately 30–60 minutes under sedation
